Garmin Edge 205 GPS Reviews

Up for review: Garmin Edge 205. If you are interested in mountain biking, then be sure to take along the Garmin Edge 205 . It is Garmin’s latest offering as a GPS enabled personal trainer and cycle computer. You can get detailed information about your trails and record this data for future use. You can also compare your performance in different rides and compete against your own times. The USB cable allows you to download the data to a computer and use Garmin Training Center software. The MotionBased website helps you to share your trails with your family and friends.

You can configure the Garmin Edge 205 by adding information about your age, weight and gender. This can determine the weight you need to shed during your training sessions. While you are riding the cycle, you can read the GPS for current speed, time, distance, altitude and the calories burned. You can record the different rides under different names. If you click on the name, you will get a Google map showing the trail and also the elevation changes in the terrain. The map will enable you to explore new trails too. Garmin Edge 205 does not fail you in wooded terrain or dense growth of trees. The satellite link is pretty much consistent. You can get real time data during your ride.

The Garmin Training Center software includes a base map which shows minimal data about major highways and cities. However, it gives nice graphs about the profile of your ride. It charts the elevation, speed, pace and grade of your ride. You can get updates on a daily and weekly basis. Garmin’s own website, MotionBased.com allows you to play back your rides at different speeds and see the related data points.

The Garmin Edge 205 has Virtual Partner which is a digital cyclist projecting your desired speed. You can compete with the digital cyclist in speed and try to get past him. There is also a Courses feature which you can use to race against a recorded course. This feature sets predetermined speeds for every point along the way.
